Work-in of the week

Today is ‘grab some nuts day’! Raw nuts are one of the healthiest nutrient rich snacks you could eat. Rich in antioxidants, Omega 3 and healthy fats they satisfy that mid-work hunger itch without the crash afterwards. **make sure its just raw nuts - many nuts are salted sweetened or come with ‘dried fruit’, which is often soaked in sugar before its dried.

Almonds and Cashews are a source of high fibre that prevent sugar spikes as well as reducing LDL cholesterol.

If you have nut allergies and a sweet tooth why not have some watermelon instead? Today is also Watermelon day! As well as a great way to hydrate, Watermelon is a source of antioxidants (linked to reduced risk of cancers and heart disease). Birthday or celebration? Flamingo Stand

  • Stand on each leg one at a time for at least 5 minutes of cumulative time throughout the work day.

  • Waiting for the kettle to boil or video calls at a standing desk or elevated worktop are a perfect opportunity to weave this movement into your work day.

  • Those comfortable with this can try introduce holding their leg out straight in front and introducing a bob motion.

Progressions

- Try stand single legged for 30 seconds at a time to start with.

- Try balance for 15 seconds at a time, build up as you fell more comfortable and improve the strength in your stabilising muscles.
